Exciting news: we’re running two workshops at Goatmire 2026!
If you haven’t heard of Goatmire you’re missing out! It’s an Elixir and Nerves conference set up by Lars Wilkman that is hosted in his hometown in Varberg, Sweden. We spoke at Goatmire last year and LOVED it. There was such great vibes, the talks were all so creative and everyone was so lovely. We got to see some people we already knew, and got to meet so many new faces. I’ll probably do a proper write up about last year’s conference and why you should 1000% come at some point.

But more about our workshops!
We’re going to be talking about Terraform and Docker (typical us, I know). We’ll be doing a Docker 101 and a Terraform 101. Talking about two things that we love and have made our lives as engineers so much easier. We’re in the middle of writing our content now, so can’t give you the exact outline, but it will be similar to chapters 2, 3 and 5 of the book we wrote (Engineering Elixir Applications). We’ll go through the basics of each tool and how to use them in real-world scenarios. Oh, and the best part: they’re both completely FREE!
As a rough guide/teaser, we’ll cover the following:
Docker 101
We’ll focus on the fundamentals that matter in real-world workflows: how to build efficient Docker images, structure your build process, and integrate Docker into CI pipelines. We’ll also explore practical techniques to iterate quickly during development, including using aliases and tooling to streamline your workflow.
By the end, you’ll be able to build and run your applications in a consistent, reproducible way, and integrate Docker into your day-to-day development workflow.
Terraform 101
We’ll use Terraform to define and manage infrastructure through real-world workflows: how to structure projects, manage and reason about state, and safely plan and apply changes. We’ll also explore how Terraform fits into CI pipelines, including how to validate, review, and apply infrastructure changes as part of a collaborative workflow.
By the end, you’ll be able to manage infrastructure through code, collaborate on changes, and integrate Terraform into your day-to-day development workflow.
Both workshops are aimed at beginners so no prior experience with Docker or Terraform needed. If you’ve heard these tools mentioned and wondered what all the fuss is about, or you’ve poked at them once or twice but don’t really understand how they work, then these workshops are for you.
The full workshop schedule hasn’t been released yet, but you can grab your Goatmire 2026 ticket now and we’ll update you when the timetable drops.
Giving a workshop is always something I’ve wanted to do, as I really love sharing knowledge in an accessible/practical way. I struggled a bit to find useful resources when I started out, so hopefully these workshops will help people understand these concepts more easily. Now to be totally transparent, this will be the first workshop that I will have run. Josep already gave a company-wide one when he worked at Erlang Solutions. Speaking in front of a lot of people is always a nerve wracking process, and each of these workshops will be 4 hours each (🤯), which is 8 hours in total! But I’m channeling my nerves into excitement, after all, they say your body doesn’t notice the difference between excitement and fear.
Anyway, we genuinely cannot wait. And hopefully we’ll see you there!
